Ormskirk v Northern Match Report 27th May 2017

Before the game started, players, match officials and spectators stood for a period of silence in memory of the 22 young people who lost their lives in the Manchester atrocity. After the moving tribute play got underway with Northern taking the field having won the toss and putting Ormskirk into bat. The opening session saw Ormskirk wickets tumble and with only 38 on the board the wickets of Andy Baybutt (7), Michael Jones (11) and Josh Bohannon (11) had been captured by the Northern opening attack. The early collapse brought George Lavelle and Gary Knight together to salvage the situation and that was exactly what they did. Both grew in confidence and proceeded to build together a partners

Wallasey v Ormskirk Match report 20th May 2017

Wallasey v Ormskirk20th May 2017 Just as the game was about to start at Wallasey’s Oval Ground, the heavens opened and so the proceedings were delayed for two hours before the first ball could be bowled. The miserable start to the day, however, gave no indication of the excitement that was to follow which ended with last a gasp joy for Ormskirk, gaining victory by seven wickets, leaving them sitting at second place in the Championship table and preserving an unbeaten run in this year’s Premier League championship. Wallasey skipper, Danny Beaver won the toss and elected to bat. First blood went to Ormskirk when Scott Lees trapped the opening batsman, Martin Williams, into feeding Ormskirk ski

Lytham 1st XI Match report 13-5-17

Ormskirk v Lytham 13th May 2017 In his programme notes, the Ormskirk captain Matt Glayzer warned the spectators to expect a close and hard fought game. He was spot-on in forecasting a tough game but could not have imagined that the final outcome would be so close in a game that see-sawed throughout in favour of each team, only to be settled in the last nail biting overs. It started with Matt Glayzer winning the toss and electing to bat on a well prepared wicket which looked to be full of runs. Andy Baybutt and Michael Jones opened the innings and progressed to a stand of 59 before Andy (30), the dominant half of the partnership, lost his wicket trying to force the pace, to a catch off the b

Ainsdale 1st XI Match report 6-5-17

In view of the form shown in the opening two games of the season the visit to Ainsdale looked to be, at least on paper, a good opportunity to cement a place at the top of the League. Newly promoted Ainsdale had lost their two opening games and so expectations were high. Ainsdale won the toss and elected to field, leaving Michael Jones and Andy Baybutt to get the Ormskirk innings underway on a very chilly afternoon. As it turned out, while the spectators were feeling the cold, the batsmen were on fire as they hammered the Ainsdale bowling to every corner of the ground with Michael Jones playing the leading role in an opening partnership of 146 with Andy Baybutt. He was in sparkling form, loo
