Ray Digman Trophy - Ormskirk v Ainsdale

Record Breaking Day at Brook lane

Ormskirk won to move into the next round of the Competition. However, it is not the fact that they won by 201 runs that will be remembered but that Club and individual records were created in setting up that victory.

With Ormskirk batting first, 26 runs were on the board when Ian Robinson came to the crease at the loss of the 1st wicket. The score had progressed to 94 when the 3rd wicket fell and Jonny Glayzer joined Ian Robinson who, at the time, had scored 18 runs. It was then that the fireworks began. They took the Ainsdale bowling apart and set up a remarkable 4th wicket partnership of 279 runs.

Jonny lost his wicket with the total score on 373, with his own contribution being to score 124 runs off 82 balls to include fifteen 4s and two 6s.

Ian was still there at the end of the innings having made 177 runs off 119 balls to include seventeen 4s and five 6s.

Analysis of the innings reveals the total score of 391 to be the highest ever recorded by the Club in a 45 over game, as is the 4th wicket partnership of 279, and that nobody has ever matched Ian Robinson’s undefeated 177 runs.

In the event Ainsdale were bowled out for 190 with the wickets being shared by the bowlers and with Ian Robinson adding to his day’s achievements by taking 2 wickets and netting a catch.
